First and foremost, I am not a business woman, or at least not a great one. I am just a mom who picked up a camera years ago. I love my clients, I love snapping away at my camera, interacting with families during the session, posing and singing silly songs to the littles to try and get them to look at me and laugh. And I love perfecting the image at home in my editing process. This is the part of my job that I love and that I'm good at!
As for the business side, not so much. Things are ever changing in the photography and business world and if I don't keep up, I will get lost. I don't believe there has ever been a more competitive season with photography. Seems like there are photographers everywhere you turn, some really good and some not good. I don't want to give up on my hopes and dreams so I am doing what I can to grow my business to keep up with a booming market!
I need to up my marketing game. Marketing takes time, energy and money to be successful. I have plans in place for an awesome new web site which again, takes time and money to create an amazing web site that can work for me and keep up with my competition. I have had this current web site from the very beginning and it's outdated and lacking in many areas that I need to help my business stand out. I am hoping to roll the new site out around the Holidays. I also need to upgrade some of my equipment that is becoming outdated. It's crazy how even a 2 year old camera can be so behind the times now!
As I'm sure you know, I opened my studio in February of this year. It was such a scary and exciting leap and so far, things are going well but it's not as easy as opening a space, sticking my sign on the door and expect people to come running. I still need to put in the work and effort to grow my business and help support my family.
In order to continue to grow my business, I've made some small changes to pricing here and there, but I knew deep down the time would come for me to make a big change. You see, ever since I started taking pictures for clients, I have been 100% all-inclusive, meaning for 1 fee, clients get ALL of the images. True, not all of them are retouched. But also, including unretouched/original files is a huge no-no in the photography world. Being all-inclusive caps my income and doesn't allow clients with variable budgets to spend more (or less) depending on their desires.
Including the unretouched images puts me at somewhat of a risk. I do ask clients to not print or post unretouched images online. The reason being because it is an unfinished product.. and it's not a real representation of the quality of work that I provide. I could lose potential clients if my unfinished work is floating around with my name attached to it and it looks unprofessional. I don't want or need that to happen.
Also, DVD's are becoming a thing of the past. I have been burning DVD's for 10+ years now and they are slowly, or not so slowly becoming obsolete.
And so, the need for change has come.
With this change, I will still be offering mini sessions and the classic one-hour sessions. I will still be including digital files. I will still be providing you with beautiful, wonderful images of your family to cherish. I will also still be offering the opportunity for you to keep ALL of your images (yes, even the unretouched ones), but it will be arranged slightly differently.
From today on with any new session booked (current booked sessions can keep my old pricing structure), your session will include a select amount of retouched images. You have the option to purchase more retouched images depending on your budget and desire. These images will now be delivered to you via online download. No more DVD's!! Hooray!!
I will not be including original/unretouched files; however, I am offering them to be purchased. If you choose to purchase the originals, they will be delivered to you along with your retouched images on a USB thumb drive in a pretty little bubble padded envelope.
I wanted to explain my changes and the reasoning behind them because some of my long time clients might not understand the need for the changes. I've been doing things the same way for a very long time and I sincerely hope I don't lose anyone over it. I am still offering extremely competitive pricing for my quality and experience. And I don't believe you will find another photographer out there who offers what I used to offer any longer unless they are brand new to this field.
I have loved seeing my business grow over the years and have loved the friendships and connections I've made through it all. Thank you to all who have helped get me to where I am today, especially my wonderful clients. The wonderful, busy Fall time is fast approaching and I can't wait to see many of my families who have come back year after year. I also am so excited to share a few things I have planned for the season! Themed Mini Sessions!! Stay tuned for more information about those!
I loved seeing the Rush family again to photograph baby girl #2! Abigail was such a sweet, sweet baby and looks so much like her big sister Evelyn!

I was named as one of Kansas City's top ten wedding photographers! It was a complete shock and surprise and I feel honored and humbled to be listed by them. Thank you to Blogger Local for the wonderful write up!
Sweet, sweet Graham. I've been so excited to meet Graham ever since his Mom and Dad told me they were expecting! I've been capturing memories for Lacey and Matt from their first maternity session with their daughter, then their daughter's newborn pictures and her first birthday! When I saw them this past December at a friends wedding (that I was photographing) they filled me in on the news they were expecting baby #2 (before they had even announced it publicly)! I was honored that they shared it with me and that they again entrusted me to capture more family memories and milestones for them. I know I say it too much, but being a photographer and having a front row seat to these major life moments is incredible and humbling. I am so in love with what I do and the friends that I make in the process.
If you are expecting a baby, please contact me to schedule a maternity or newborn session!
Hunter is my first Senior of 2020! He selected Burr Oaks in Blue Springs for his session, which is one of my favorite spots. So many great photo backdrop opportunities here.
Congratulations Hunter! Have an amazing Senior year! Thank you for having me capture your senior portraits for you!
If you would like to schedule a senior or other portrait session with me, please CONTACT me and we'll get you scheduled!
I met up with Andrew and Michelle at one of my very favorite locations in Lees Summit for their special maternity photography session. The creek and trails never disappoint. I'm so excited to meet their little one who will arrive very soon!
I spent some time around Kansas City with Chris, Jessi and their pup Loki. It was a sweaty night, but we had a great time!!
We started out at Liberty Memorial then moved to the Plaza for some ice coffee. I can't wait for their wedding which will be at the Sporting KC Park! So much fun!!
Congrats Jessi and Chris!
What a little doll baby. Sweet Olivia is pretty perfect in every way and I'm positive her big brother agrees. I've come to know the Archuletta Family quite well over the years. Everett is such a ball of love and energy, but I have never seen him so smitten until I saw him with his little sister. Such a special bond these two will have and I'm so excited to see them continue to grow together.
If you are expecting your own baby and looking for a photographer to capture your own family's memories, please let me know. I would love to hear from you!
